Nage Restaurant

Nage is a great restaurant tucked away in the Grand Marriott at Scott Circle. I met up with Galen Johnson for a little dinner while trying to meet with a business partner. In that time the bartender Matt sent out the "Three tastes and Three Bites." (They are pictured above in the 3 part dish with the 3 wine pairings) The first was a delicate escargot with what seemed to be a little garlic, thyme, basil, and butter sauce. It was paired with an even more delicate SeliniSauvignon Blanc from New Zealand. The second was a grilled calamari with a zesty house made tomato sauce which seemed like it had hints of curry to it. This was paired with FoppianoSangiovese. This wine is awesome. Blended with a little zinfandel and petit syrah. Perfect. The third was a Pancetta remouillade. Pancetta is an Italian salt cured pork similar to American bacon. This was made fresh to order and was damn well worth it. The pork had a beautiful texture with sweet beginning followed by the fontina cheese finish. My second favorite thing that we were sent this evening. This was paired with Steele Cabernet Franc. Again another hit! Great velvety finish to this wine. This pairing that Nage does is a must. Everyone has to try it.

Now as I mentioned I have a second favorite thing that was sent to us, that was the Pancetta Remouillade. Then below you will read about the favorite thing we ordered. Now this is something that Galen insisted that he must send over even though I thought I had ordered too much. I am glad he did because for something we didn't ordered it turned into one of the best surprises of the evening. This of course was the Spinach Ricotta Gnudi with a Smoked Salmon Carbonara, Fresh Peas, Mint, Fresh Horseradish, and American Caviar. WOW! In my opinion, and my opinion only counts to me right now, this is a dish that you have to encounter. No story about it just a demand to try it when you get there.

As for dinner, my partner and I decided to order the Seared Foie Gras. This was prepared very carefully as to not stick and remove the crisp exterior. (Most restaurants can't get this part right, but is desired) It was paired with a Sauterne Gelee, Date Jam, Persimmon, Meyer Lemon Oil, and top with freshly grated Horseradish. This was my favorite dish that we ordered this evening. We then moved onto the Braised Short Ribs With A Bacon, Egg, and Tomato Risotto. The risotto was a great contrast in texture to the Ribs. The Ribs even had a touch of sweetness. This was accompanied by Braised Kale With Turkey Bacon and Mustard Seeds which was delicious and I usually don't care for kale at all.

All in all. This was a great experience and a relief that it wasn't the typical wash of gigantic fusion laiden food that is strewn across the rest of the D.C. area. My compliments.

Below is a map of the area.

Inti Peruvian Restaurant

Inti has got to be the best Peruvian food in the city. It's located at 18th and swann st nw. Right down the street from adams morgan (18th st) and Florida ave. They have everything from Pisco Sours to ANTICUCHOS DE CORAZON (beef heart with peruvian corn). I have found that my favorite things here are the Yukita Relleno a lo Inti and the Ceviche de Pescado . The Piscos are great and so is the Spanish wine selection. Go by and sit on the patio on a spring day. It definately beats waiting in line at the "big known restaurant" on 18th st. Not that it's any consultation at all, but the food is way better at INTI. Stop by and say hello and look for a younger girl named "Janice". Tell her I sent you by.

Crazy driver!

Just pulling out of a parking spot in Cleveland Park when I notice
this lady in a z4 with her head down leaving either a huge gap because
she brained out or she is being nice to let me in. I pause them pull
out. After I get in position I get a honk. I turn around like what
now. She shrugs and points at her watch. I roll down my window to see
what's up. She proceeds to tell me that she was in line and she is
late for a 2 oclock appointment. Now I am truly a nice guy most of the
time, so I just laughed it off and posted her up because it was 4
oclock. Sorry 2 hours is not late, u just missedan appointment. And
that only counts if I care and I don't. I hope your reading this too!
Don't slack of and leave the door open for someone to slip in line.
Wake up!

This is it. I have asked, pleaded, begged, black mailed, invited some of you out to FLY on Thursday knowing some of you have to get up early on Friday. I have stood by and understood, but no longer! Get your asses out here tonight. Join me with Chris from GO MAG DC for a 1 way trip. Listen, for all of you day jobbers (I got one too, along with bar tending) follow the steps I have listed below for an easier morning after going out:

1.Before you head out tonight put Advil beside the bed with 2 waters.
2.Set your alarm clock 1 hour before you usually get up.
3.When you get home pop 4 and drink 1.
4.When it goes off pop 4 more and drink the last water.
5.Reset alarm clock for normal wake up time.

If you follow my rules I promise you will join me more often when we do these things.

Now as for everyone else that has been out with me you know tonight we are going out with a bang. So you might wanna follow the rules listed above as well. We got a DJ spinning at FLY and PLAY tonight so you know we are going to be crossing the street a little. Join me, we will stop and raid Julia's Empanadas!!!!

On the Fly

So I am sure you all have seen the two "On the Fly" smartkarts around the Verizon Center. Diego is located at 8th and H st NW and Smokin' Joe is located at 7th and F st NW. Don't be afraid, they don't sting. Seriously, half of you reading this are the ones that love getting Julia's Empanadas when you are out clubbing. Well guess what! They got 'em. Along with a lot of other really good, and good for you, grub. The staff is insanely fun and easy to talk to. What's great about this idea is, it opens you up to a different and better selection of food in the area you work in. Could you imagine having only your lunch break to get something to eat, when you have an empanada attack in the Chinatown area. I can't see many of you jumping in a cab, or worse the metro, racing over to Adams Morgan or South Dupont to feast on a Chilean to try and make it back in time! You don't have to. These guys bring them right to you. Also, the Carnitas Taco, hands down, the best thing on the kart! Speaking of the SmartKart, it's zero emmissions! It runs completely on electricity. Good to know when these guys are driving them into position for your lunchtime. Stop by and check these guys out! Give your lunch break a little versatility! Oh be kind, and tip.

Click the FLYer to see whats up, or just get in touch with me. You are going to want to be at this one. Don't come bitching,"I saw the photos from FLY on Thursday! You should have told me it was going to be like that!" ~ I did tell you, you know, no excuses, wanna stay on the list!? Show your ass tonight, come play at FLY with me!

Audi's new sexy A5 headlights!

Yep that's right I shot this while driving, with a school bus beside me, while talking on the phone, and eating a scone! Okay so I did this driving but check out the framing of this shot! You love it! Oh and that A5 in the picture is sick shit huh!?

Veritas Wine Bar

Sean McCabe (National Sales Cuca Fresca & Macchu Pisco) loves wine but loves to work.

It was good while it lasted!

Shawn, Valentina, Orlando(zengo), Alex(zengo), and Tim(clyde's).

Jennifer(zengo), Valentina, Orlando(where are your hands?), Alex, and Tim.
Empty Champagne Bucket!

So Veritas was a hit! Located on the NW corner of Florida and Connecticut, it's a prime spot for something different. Jamie, the bartender, was very informative and better yet was a great guy to allow our drunk asses to hang out and drink 3 bottles after we had just had 4 bottles at Bistrot du Coin. (Bistrot du Coin musts are the Steak Tartar and the Champagne. The mark up was nothing. Dom '96 was only $150!!!)

Now back to Veritas. When you go the Gorgonzola, Humboldt, Manchego, and Chimay cheeses are a must. Perfect examples of what they should taste like. The Chicken Liver Mousse, Pork Tenderloin, and the Pheasant were surprisingly perfect with a bottle of Prosecco. Tell Jamie we said Hi!

International Wine & Food Festival

The main floor.

Valentina enjoying more and more crab.

Jet Blue was there, doing, I don't know but it was fun when drinking!

Valentina, Alex, and Orlando having some "samples"!

Shannon (Poste) sad about his empty glass.

The festival was definitely a fun thing to do with a whole Sunday off and a bunch of friends around. Some of the wines were very "grocery" others were ones still looking to be picked up by a distributer in the the States. We all thought the wines of Alejandro Galli of Carbe LLC were the best. Especially the Argentinian Avieso Torrontes and the Camino de los 7 Lagos Gran Reserva. If you are interested send him an email and tell Alejandro that Shawn sent you!

New.Condo?

Jenn and I are still looking for a condo. This one was perfect on the inside but the neighborhood is a little ehhh. Oh and it's not near a metro but it's so us. It's located on 5832 Georgia Ave NW. Gerard is awesome. Check out his company Urban Land. So if you see one like this let us know.

Meridian

After checking out the condos on Missouri and Georgia I headed downstairs to the area's newest restaurant Meridian. Here is what Tom Sietsema of The Washington Post had to say about it. REVIEW

I personally was surprised. Chef Michael Roberston, once of Zola, did an amazing job that evening. The baby spinach salad was a hit, but the Red Stripe Red Snapper was a perfect blend of all sensory parts of the palette.

Murasaki

Okay very quickly. If anyone is looking for really good sushi here in the district and you are tired of the same old place then you have to check out Murasaki. The rolls were sick! If you want to take a look over what the have to offer just follow the link. MENU
Don't just trust what I have to say about this place. Check out what Nancy Lewis over at Washington Post had to say about Murasaki. REVIEW
